A couple of process images trying to figure out what we want to do with this board dealie. The last image means the belts are almost done. Lots of hand work for these guys, Andrew is doing a great job.

The weekend was mellow, hence the not responding to emails or comments. Here are some images of Les Cahiers Purple that was purchased from here. Coco was a gift to my little lady but has been hanging out with me mostly. A couple of other random images from the weekend. The board will not look like that. Don’t like the white part. I think we will end up just doing a really simple stain leaving the edges natural and keeping the top laminate grey.

Board final. Gray laminate top and to be painted/stained bottom. We should have the shipment in the next two weeks and will then work on finishing them up. A short film will be made of the process.

Every good independent/one-man saw mill needs a dock into a private lake.

Stacks of wood are everywhere. Some are from lawn trees that were destined for landfill and some (like the above image) are from a reclaimed dock. The fragmented ends are where they were buried in the sand for 50 years.

Seriously everywhere.

This is Bob, he runs the Mill by himself. He is digging in a protype of a new wood drying kiln developed in Japan. This is the second one in the US. He is about to receive the full size one within the next couple months. It supposedly dries the wood to a usable point in a fraction of the time and for half the energy costs. Awesomeness and progression. Bob is a badass, period.

Those are the ropes that Bob uses to move giant tree segments to be milled. Pulley systems in the garage-like structure are used and sometimes he even moves the entire Lucas Mill to where the tree is dropped off of the truck. The purpose of the trip was to find some live oak for a sign piece that Blair and Chase were working on. The bottom image is them pouring paint thinner on the raw wood to check the tonality and grain.

This is Blair. He makes beautiful things out of wood, he also smokes a pipe and has a tiny baby. Blair is awesome, thanks for letting us tag along.

I ended up with 3 large pieces of magnolia for a dinning room table that I will be building with the help of Blair and his wood shop. Really fun little day journey, next weekend we are going scalloping. Go outside.
